1997 Demographic File - including weights
The order of the variables has changed.
The Demographic data file has been revised. If you have previously
downloaded these data, please review the following changes as you may want to
obtain the new data set for your analysis.
- The order of the variables has changed. Variables with information specific to the child now appear first in the data set (after the ID variables), followed by variables containing family level information.
- Some variable names have changed.
| OLD VARNAME |
NEW VARNAME |
| AQCASE |
INTID97 |
| PSN |
SEQNUM97 |
| HHTYPE |
FUTYPE |
| HUSIZE |
FUSIZE |
| HEADINC |

| HDWKHRS |
HDAVG97 |
| WFWKHRS |
WFAVG97 |
- The date variables BDATE, CHIWDATE, and PCGIWDAT have been parsed from a
single variable to separate variables representing the month, day and year
(for confidentiality reasons, the variable BDATE is represented by month and
year only). These changes were made because SPSS did not interpret these
values correctly. The new variable names are:
|
|
|
| CHIWDATE: |
| CHIWMON |
| CHIWDAY |
| CHIWYR | |
|
| PCGIWDAT: |
| PCGIWMON |
| PCGIWDAY |
| PCGIWYR | |
- The following three additional weight variables have been added to the
data set:
- OTCGCHWT - other caregiver child booklet weight
- OTCGHHWT - other caregiver household booklet weight
- SUBSELWT - within household selection factor
Refer to the CDS Weights Documentation for information and guidelines
on the usage of these weights.
- Some values for the updated variables HDLAB97, WFLAB97, HDAVG97, and
WFAVG97 (formerly named HEADINC, WIFEINC, HDWKHRS, and WFWKHRS, respectively)
have changed. Some observations contained erroneous data for these
variables. These errors have been corrected.
- Missing data (on a number of variables) was recovered for four cases.
- The labels for the variables PCG, OCG, CH97PRWT, CH97HHWT and PCGHHBWT
have been updated.
- Five variables have been dropped from the data set:
- FAMID
- SIBNUM
- HDWORK
- WFWORK
- WEIGHT (prelim weight)
