01-AUG-2008     PSID Main Family Data
Updated Data Release

New and updated data have been released into the Data Center. The data are described in detail in the accompanying codebooks also found in the Data Center. The data include the following:

Variables released into the Family data files:

1. Family weights for 1993-2003 have been replaced with recalculated longitudinal weights. The prior weight values were archived and documented.

4. Coded items including occupation, industry, and why job ended, formerly in supplemental files, were added to the main family files for 1994-1997.

5. The race and Spanish descent variables from 1994-1996 were updated.

6. The age of the youngest child, number of individuals in the family unit, and number of children under age 18, were recalculated for 1968-1996.

7. The date of interview for paper and pencil cases in 1993 and 1994 was corrected.
